THE MOONWINKS STORY
On a hot July Saturday night in 1941, Muriel Green, 14 (but posing as 17 with her 17-year-old cousin Beatrice) decided to head down to Moonwinks Restaurant & Bar in Cuba Lake, NY, to see the college boys from St. Bona's who usually frequented that spot. One thing led to another and Muriel met Oscar, 21 years of age.
Right from the start, Oscar came-a-courtin'. Oscar would travel to Muriel's home in Buffalo, NY every weekend for the next two years in hopes to win her heart. WWII began, now Muriel's courtier was referred to as Tank Sergeant Ozzie and in June, 1944, was off to war in Europe. Ozzie wrote to Muriel everyday until the war ended.
On June 30, 1946, Muriel and Ozzie were married (she was now 19 and he was 26) in Buffalo, NY, and the rest is history! The name, MoonWinks, has always signified a very special location for the beginning of a lasting and loving relationship. The "wink" symbolizes a significant secret many may keep in the name of love -- my mother Muriel's dark secret was her young age.
